Fee Refund Policy

Introduction

This is the Fee Refund Policy of A1 Transportation Academy. All students are advised to read each section carefully. For any questions or clarification, please contact the academy directly.

This policy is prescribed under Sections 25 to 33 of O. Reg. 415/06.

1. Full Refunds

A student is eligible for a full refund of fees under the following conditions:

• The contract is cancelled within 2 days of receiving a copy (as per Section 36 of the Act)
• The college discontinues the program before completion (except when the college itself closes)
• Fees were collected:
  
  • Before registration approval, or
  • Before the program was approved, or
  • Before signing the contract (unless allowed under subsection 44(3))
• The student is expelled in violation of the college’s expulsion policy
• The instructor is not qualified as required under Section 41
• The contract becomes void under applicable sections of the Act
• Incorrect or unlisted fees were charged

Important Notes:

• Refund will only be issued upon written request by the student
• Refund must be processed within 30 days of receiving notice or request

2. Partial Refund (If Student Does Not Start the Program)

A student may receive a partial refund if:

• They withdraw before the program starts
• They fail to meet admission requirements
• They do not attend within the first 14 days, and the college cancels the contract within 45 days

Refund Amount:

• Full fees paid minus the lesser of:
  
  • 20% of total fees, OR
  • $500

Refund Timeline:

• Within 30 days (withdrawal or unmet requirements)
• Within 45 days (non-attendance cases)

3. Partial Refund (After Program Starts)

If a student withdraws or is expelled:

• Refund applies only if withdrawal occurs in the first half of the program

Refund Calculation:

• Total fees paid minus:
  
  • Up to 20% (max $500), and
  • Cost of completed portion of program

No refund if withdrawal occurs in the second half of the program

4. Distance Education Programs

For online or distance learning programs:

• Refund applies if:
  
  • Student withdraws or is expelled, AND
  • Has not completed more than 50% of evaluations

Refund Calculation:

• Total fees minus:
  
  • Up to 20% (max $500), and
  • Cost of completed segments

5. Non-Continuous Programs

For programs with flexible hours:

• Refund applies if the student withdraws or is expelled before completion

Refund Calculation:

• Total fees minus:
  
  • Up to 20% (max $500), and
  • Proportionate cost of completed hours

No refund if more than 50% of the program is completed

6. No Retention of Refund

The academy cannot deduct or retain refund amounts to recover any other dues unrelated to the vocational program.

7. Books and Equipment

The academy may deduct costs if:

• Items are not returned within 10 days, OR
• Items are returned damaged or opened

8. Refund for International Students

If a student is denied a visa:

• It will be treated as:
  
  • Contract cancellation (if within 2 days), OR
  • Withdrawal (if within first half of program duration)

9. Currency

All refunds will be issued in Canadian Dollars (CAD).
